Due to a miscarriage, and Kimikos cancer (and treatment thereof), followed finally by some chinese fertility medicine, Kasumi and Akane are born twins. Unfortunately Soun dies from alcohol poisoning, leaving the children to be brought up by Kimiko. Kasumi is a frail, asthmatic girl, who is very feminine. Akane is her total opposite.
